Dirt bikes are fast, exciting, and fun—but they’re also potentially very dangerous. We here at Bob Lanphere’s Beaverton Motorcycles want to help you get the most out of every ride while still making it home safely, so we’ve put together some dirt bike safety tips, below. Dress to Crash

What some might read as pessimism is, in this case, just realism. No matter how long you’ve been riding them or following the sport, you can never account for everything on the trail. At some point, you’re going to crash. You’ll need the right outfit to get through it in one piece, including:

  • A crash-test certified motocross helmet.
  • Safety goggles or glasses.
  • High-traction riding gloves.
  • High-traction boots that go above the ankle.
  • Padded, full-length clothing.

You should also bring a well-stocked first aid kit in the car or on your person with antiseptic, bandages, painkillers, and whatever else you think you might need.

Minimize Risk

Riding a dirt bike is inherently thrilling and dangerous, even if you ride as cautiously as possible, so try to minimize risk when and where you can. That means not riding in bad weather or low light, or on paved roads. When possible, ride near a buddy so they can help you if you crash and vice-versa. In a best-case scenario, you get to share your adventure with a friend or loved one!
