If you’re looking to get your motorcycle inspected, our service team at Beaverton Motorcycles is more than happy to help you out. Along with several other maintenance and repair services, our expert service technicians are the best in the Tigard and Beaverton area to look at any powersports vehicles.
While motorcycles and low-speed vehicles such as mopeds and ATVs are exempt from emission testing according to the official website of the State of Oregon, there are a few core things to consider when taking your motorcycle out for a spin, especially after a long layoff.
Motorcycle Inspection Checklist
A few things to keep in mind when it comes to using your motorcycle: fuel system, battery, tires and brakes. Especially after winter months, your motorcycle might need a bit of a checkup before getting back on the road.
The fuel system is one of the most important areas to check after a long layoff. The gas remaining in your tank can change its chemical composition over time with parts of the mixture evaporating. This could lead to clogged jets inside a carburetor and lead to poor performance, if your motorcycle even starts up at all.
Your battery may have died after an extended period of time without use, making a battery test incredibly important. Check the individual battery cells and add distilled water if needed, and then charge the battery with an external charger.
Similar to the previous two parts, get your tires and brakes checked to make sure they are in good enough shape to take the road again. All of these procedures can be carried out as part of our inspection process, and it couldn’t hurt to get a set of professional eyes on your prized vehicle before getting back on it.
